Protests are very weak in Russia, there are almost none… I think that the reason is that the Russians do not believe in a good future for Russia and their good future in Russia and that someone will support them. Judge for yourself:
Slavery in Russia was abolished in 1861. The slaves were mostly Russians, the masters were also Russians.
Jews in Russia were allowed to live only in certain places until 1917. And under the USSR they were not allowed to study at some Universities and work at some jobs.
From 1917 to 1991 in Russia (USSR), in fact, the right to private property was abolished, it was impossible to open a private business, it was impossible to buy or sell currency, it was impossible to scold the authorities, etc.
In 1999, Putin came to power and since then there have been no fair elections. Opposition candidates were simply not allowed to vote. They were killed, imprisoned, and so on. Those who threw votes for Putin and his party in the elections, even with video evidence, were not tried and were not punished in any way.
In 2008 he attacked Georgia, in 2014 he seized Crimea (part of Ukraine) and no countries sided with Georgia and Ukraine (I mean, they did not fight with Russia).
Then there were protests in which Russians were beaten, arrested, tortured and imprisoned.
Then they began to imprison for protest inscriptions in social networks …
After the start of the war in Ukraine, many European countries stopped letting ordinary Russians in, do not issue them visas, and do not even let them on transfer flights at transit airports that do not require a visa. At the same time, most of the officials and diplomats who support Putin continue to quietly travel to Europe … And Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT, the withdrawal of PayPal and Etsy from Russia punished mostly ordinary Russians, because those who support Putin did not worked with other countries and almost did not left Russia, and Putin’s officials and their families issue bank cards in other countries without any problems.
And all this time, the authorities of the USSR, and then Putin, met with the presidents of other countries, spoke at international forums, the police authorities traveled to other countries to exchange experiences … Ordinary Russians saw this and understood that if they oppose the authorities, then no one is for them do not intervene, no one will protect them.
And all this time propaganda was working in Russia, which convinced people that life in the «West» is worse than in Russia, that NATO wants to destroy us, and that those who are against the authorities are to blame for all the troubles. And this propaganda worked with a lot of people. I think that now in Russia 30% of the population actively supports Putin and the war in Ukraine. 30% are strongly against it. And 40% just want to live, do their job, raise children, some of them sympathize with the Ukrainians, and some do not care what is happening in the world. But the first 30% of the percentage includes well-armed police and military (this is approximately 4.5 million people), heads of all large enterprises, cities, schools, etc. Putin has been building this vertical of power and his support since 1999. And the 30% who are against Putin and against the war include students, creative people, programmers and those who work a lot on the Internet and can see what is happening in the world.
And now a Russian who is against Putin has a choice: either protest (or do something more significant) and be beaten and go to jail, or leave the country (which is very expensive, especially if you have children), or sit quietly and not express your position.
And even if a Russian goes to jail for being against Putin, then he most likely will not be given a visa because he was in prison (for example, because he is a terrorist, because there is no article “he was against corruption”), and an official at the embassy will not understand the intricacies of Russian legislation.
I hope this will change soon, the war in Ukraine will end, officials around the world will understand that ordinary people cannot be punished just because they were born in Russia and did not want to go to prison, and everyone in the world will understand, that Putin, the singers who support him and war criminals are not the owners of the Russian language and everyone will understand that the first country that Putin captured is Russia.

В 2008 году напал на Грузию, в 2014 захватил Крым (часть Украины) и ни какие страны не встали на сторону Грузии и Украины (я имею ввиду не стали воевать с Россией).
Потом были протесты, на которых Россиян избивали, арестовывали, пытали и сажали в тюрьмы.
Потом начали сажать за протестные надписи в соцсетях…
После начала войны в Украине многие Европейские страны перестали пускать простых Россиян к себе, не выдают им визы и даже не пускают на пересадочные рейсы в транзитных аэропортах, для которых не нужна виза. При этот большинство чиновников и дипломатов, которые поддерживают Путина продолжают спокойно ездить в Европу… А отключение России от SWIFT, уход из России PayPal и Etsy наказал в основном простых Россиян, потому что те кто поддерживает Путина и так не работали с другими странами и почти не выезжали из России, а Путинские чиновники и их семьи без проблем оформляю банковские карты в других странах.
И всё это время власти СССР, а затем и Путин встречались с президентами других стран, выступали на международных форумах, полицейское начальство ездило в другие страны для обмена опытом… Простые Россияне это видели и понимали, что если они выступят против власти, то никто за них не вступиться, ни кто их не защитит.
И всё это время в России работала пропаганда, которая убеждала людей в том, что на «Западе» жить хуже, чем в России, что НАТО хочет нас уничтожить и что во всех бедах виноваты те, кто против власти. И с очень многими людьми эта пропаганда сработала. Я думаю, что сейчас в России 30% процентов населения активно поддерживает Путина и войну в Украине. 30 % резко против этого. А 40 % просто хотят жить, делать свою работу, воспитывать детей, некоторые из них сочувствуют Украинцам, а некоторым всё равно на то, что происходит в мире. Но в первые 30% процентов входят хорошо вооружённые полицейские и военные (это приблизительно 4,5 миллиона человек), начальники всех крупных предприятий, городов, школ и т.д. Эту вертикаль власти и свою поддержку Путин выстраивал с 1999 года. А в 30% которые против Путина и против войны входят студенты, творческие люди, программисты и те, кто много работает в Интернете и может видеть, что происходит в мире.
И теперь у Россиянина, который против Путина есть выбор: либо выйти на протест (или сделать что более существенное) и быть избитым и сесть в тюрьму, либо уехать из страны (что очень дорого, особенно если у вас есть дети), либо сидеть тихо и не высказывать свою позицию.
И даже если Россиянин отсидит в тюрьме за то, что он против Путина, потом ему скорее всего не дадут визу, потому что он сидел в тюрьме (например, за то, что он террорист, ведь нет статьи «он был против коррупции»), а чиновник в посольстве не будет разбираться в тонкостях Российского законодательства.
Надеюсь, это скоро измениться, война в Украине закончится, чиновники во всём мире поймут, что нельзя наказывать простых людей только за то, что они родились в России и не хотели сидеть в тюрьме, и все в мире поймут что Путин, певцы которые его поддерживают и военные преступники не являются собственниками русского языка и все поймут что первая страна которую захватил Путин – это Россия.
